Work with us.

We are looking for carpenters and leading hands, an apprentice and a site supervisor, across Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, Inner West and Lower North Shore. Above award pay, employed or subcontract, on work that is worth putting your name to.

A Piper Moss carpenter cutting timber on a drop saw, wearing hearing protection, safety glasses and a hi-vis vest

A small crew, run by the people who own it.

Piper Moss is a second-generation building company, established in 2016, with roots in four decades of Auld family building across Sydney.

You would not be a number here. The person who prices the job is on site, and if something is wrong you can say so to their face and have it dealt with that day.

Our estimating and risk discipline comes from major NSW infrastructure, including Sydney Metro tunnelling and the Hunter Transmission Project. That is an unusual background for a residential builder and it shows up in how the jobs are planned, sequenced and paid.

It also means we take on the structural and remedial work most builders would rather not quote. If you want to get good at the hard end of the trade, that is where you will spend your time.

Who we are looking for.

Three roles open right now, all Sydney based. We are always looking for the right motivated people though, so if you are close to one of these but not exactly it, send your details anyway.

Carpenter / leading hand

Certificate III in Carpentry and a white card, with the confidence to set out and run a small crew on your own. Remedial or strata experience is a bonus, not a requirement. We will teach you that side.

Apprentice carpenter

Any stage, though second year or later suits us best. You would be on the tools next to a licensed builder every day rather than parked on clean-up. We want you signed off and capable, not just cheap labour.

Site supervisor / 2IC

Running programme, subbies and site safety across occupied buildings. Suits someone who has done their time on the tools and wants the next step without joining a builder where you never see the boss.

What you get.

The things people actually leave a job over, dealt with honestly.

Above award pay

Rates above the award, set on your ticket and your experience rather than on what we think we can get away with.

Properly on the books

Employees get payslips, super and workers compensation. No cash in hand, no grey arrangements, no chasing us for what you are owed.

Employed or subcontract

Whichever suits your situation. If you run your own ABN and want steady work rather than a payroll number, that works for us too.

A real work life balance

We are a family business and we run it like one. The programme is planned properly so the job does not get recovered out of your weekends.

Work worth learning from

Underpinning, concrete repair, waterproofing, facades, heritage fabric, second storeys. The variety is the point, and it is how you get good.

A path to your licence

If you are working toward your own builder's licence, say so. Working under a licensed second-generation builder on this kind of scope is exactly the experience that counts.

How the hiring works.

01

Send your details

The form below takes a minute. No cover letter, no portal, no account to create. A CV is welcome but not required.

02

A phone call

A straight conversation about what you have done, what you want to be doing, where you live and what the money needs to look like.

03

A day on site

Come and see the work and meet the crew before either of us commits. Paid, because your time is worth something.

Questions we get asked.

If it is not answered here, ring and ask.

01What kind of work would I be doing?

Structural and remedial work, strata remedial, extensions and second storeys, new builds, and the occasional defect inspection. It is varied. You are not doing the same detail on the same estate for two years.

02Where are the jobs?

Mostly Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, Inner West and Lower North Shore. We also work across the Inner City and Northern Beaches. Tell us your suburb and we will be straight with you about travel.

03Is this employed or subcontract?

Either, depending on what suits you. Some of our people are employees on the books with super and workers compensation. Others run their own ABN and invoice us. Tell us which you are after.

04What does it pay?

Above award. The exact rate depends on your ticket, your experience and whether you are employed or subcontracting, so we would rather talk about it properly than post a number that turns out to be wrong for you.

05Do you take on apprentices?

Yes. We are a small crew, so an apprentice here works alongside a licensed builder rather than being left to sweep up. If you are partway through a Certificate III in Carpentry and your last place was not teaching you anything, talk to us.

06Am I covered if something happens on site?

Yes. We carry workers compensation and 20 million dollars of public liability, both in force. Employees are on the books properly, with payslips and super. We do not do cash in hand.

A licensed, insured employer.

  • NSW Builder Licence 497435C, Class 2. Building practitioner registration BUP4255006.
  • Workers compensation and 20 million dollars public liability, both in force.
  • Second-generation family business, established 2016, ABN 96 698 311 312.
  • Work across residential, commercial, strata and heritage building classes.

Tell us about yourself.

No portal and no cover letter. Fill this in and we will call you.

We are always looking for the right motivated people, so even if nothing above is an exact fit today, we would rather have your details on file than miss you.
